Jimmy Kimmel and a Group of Stars Surprised Moviegoers Across the Street From the Oscars

In the middle of the show, Kimmel picked a moviegoer to introduce the next presenters.

The 90th Academy Awards were unavoidable Sunday night—especially for a crowd of moviegoers in Los Angeles.

A group of people decided to go see a sneak preview of A Wrinkle in Time instead of watching the Oscars (which were taking place right across the street). Midway through the awards show, host Jimmy Kimmel explained that the whole thing was a set-up, and that he was about to bring the Oscars across the street to the people in the theater.

"I thought it would be nice if we got a group together to go over there and thank them in person, to surprise them," Kimmel said. He then rounded up a group of stars, which included Gal Gadot, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Hamill, Lupita Nyong’o, and Emily Blunt.

The crew of stars walked across the street, armed with two hot dog cannons, sandwiches, and a bunch of candy. Kimmel cracked a joke about a strong aroma of marijuana filling the theater, then picked a random moviegoer to announce the presenters for the next award.

A man named Mike Young introduced Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph—although he did butcher Tiffany's last name. Maybe Mike was the one responsible for the theater's strong odor?
