When news hit that DeWanda Wise would co-star in Captain Marvel, fans were excited about the rumors of the young actress portraying the superhero, Monica Rambeau.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter confirms Wise will no longer appear in the upcoming Marvel film due to "scheduling conflicts" with Netflix's She's Gotta Have It. Wise also went to Instagram to share the news (and she's taking a lot better than the rest of us.)
"It's true. I will no longer be in Captain Marvel because the schedule conflicts with Season 2 of She's Gotta Have It," read a post on her Instagram story. "Last week I felt pretty devastated—this week is leaps and bounds better...You see, if you had told me this would happen any year prior to 2016, I would have doubled over with laughter. But here we are—at a moment in culture where scheduling conflicts are rapidly replacing lack of options, and I feel absolutely blessed to be here."
However, all hope might not be lost for having a black woman superhero in the film. The studio is reportedly in talks with British actress Lashana Lynch, who appeared in Shonda Rhimes' Still Star-Crossed, to take on the role, according to Deadline.
Brie Larson is slated to star as the titular hero while Jude Law will play Walter Lawson better known as Mar-Vell. Although Ben Mendelsohn is confirmed to play the villain, it has yet to be announced which foe he will portray in the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck–directed effort. Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury will also make an appearance in the film.
Captain Marvel, which will take place in the '90s, is scheduled to be released on March 8, 2019.
