I think it’s safe to say that the world is never not in need of more Keanu Reeves, which is why I am especially pleased to deliver this excellent news. It would appear that a third installment of the 1989 classic Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and subsequent sequel, Bill & Ted’sBogus Journey (1991), is very much in the works.

Reeves told Entertainment Weekly that they’ve been trying to get the film made for over 10 years. “[Writers] Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon pitched us an idea. It sounded great,” said the actor, “in show business, there’s show and then there’s business.” In non-industry speak, that means the team couldn’t get the financing, but it appears their luck has changed. Solomon told EW, “We are hoping to close a deal with some financiers,” and that fans can hope for news “within the next month or so.”

Solomon describes the script for the project as “like A Christmas Carol with Bill and Ted.” Matheson says, “You’re told you’re gonna save the world. And now you’re 50 and you haven’t done it. Now they’re married, and it affects their marriages, and it affects their relationships with their kids, and it affects their everything.”

Dean Parisot of Galaxy Quest is attached as a director and Steven Soderbergh has signed on as one of the producers. However, before you get too excited, it’s not a done deal. They’ve still got to get the script to a studio, which by the way, could be the subject of an excellent adventure in and of itself.
