Alec Baldwin is set to be the host of his own talk show, Sundays With Alec Baldwin on ABC, with a sneak peek airing right after this Sunday's 90th Annual Academy Awards, The Huffington Post reports. ABC has already ordered several episodes of the show, with Sunday's "first look" boasting Jerry Seinfeld and Kate McKinnon as guests.
Like most other nighttime talk shows, the show will have one-on-one interviews with celebrity guests and other newsmakers, and according to a source tip from Deadline, it's slated for primetime. Rumors have swirled about the actor's potential talk show on ABC since last year, and he already hosts another show on the network called Match Game. In recent years, Baldwin is most-known for his spot-on impression of President Trump on Saturday Night Live, but obviously has an acting resume that includes his role as Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock.
Baldwin is, of course, no stranger to interviewing guests and starting conversations, having had a short talk show in 2013 on MSNBC, in addition to hosting the weekly podcast Here's The Thing for two seasons. “I’m excited about this show and grateful to ABC for taking a chance on me in what is, admittedly, a crowded field,” Baldwin said about the show. “I’ve enjoyed doing my podcast for WNYC and look forward to the challenge of doing a show on camera.”
It's worth noting that Baldwin's MSNBC show came to an end following his own homophobic rants, and after apologizing, he took a short break from the spotlight before resurfacing a few months later.
President of ABC Entertainment Channing Dungey seems positive about the growth potential for the show and feels like its pilot is a good indication of what's to come. “We are excited to be working on a series that showcases Alec as one of today’s most compelling conversationalists,” he said.
