Da Brat Will Star in a 'Set It Off' Play Adaptation

Da Brat will be your knew Cleo in 'Set it Off' play.

While dozens of '90s movies are getting film reboots, 1996's Set it Offwill be making its return as a live stage play.

The famed '90s rapper Da Brat announced that she will be making her theatrical debut as Cleo, who was originally played by Queen Latifah in the film. The rest of her bank robbers in crime will be portrayed by Kyla Pratt, Latoya Luckett, and Demetria McKinney. Although it's unclear who will be the film's other major characters, Stony, Tisean, and Frankie, who were originally portrayed by Jada Pinkett-Smith, Kimberly Elise, and Vivica A. Fox, respectively.

However, Da Brat revealed that this role is a long time coming for her since she auditioned for the role in the original film and didn't get it. "Set it Off is my favorite movie of all time," said Da Brat in a press statement. "I couldn’t let it get away from me twice and had to jump at the chance. Je’Caryous Johnson presents Set It Off is a dream come true for me and I’m honored to bring it to fans across the country."

Set it Off, which is written, directed, and produced by Je’Caryous Johnson, will kick off on March 9 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta and continue to Washington D.C., Houston, Chicago, St. Louis, and Detroit before ending in Los Angeles.
