The team behind New York Comic Con, Reed Pop, is expanding its multi-city event roster into southern Africa, having just announced the first annual Comic Con Africa, according to CBR. The event will run from September 14 - 16 at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Comic Con events already happen in plenty of other cities around the world, including New York, Seoul, Delhi, Paris and many more, which is probably why the NYCC should change the name of Comic Con Africa to Comic Con South Africa. At Comic Con Africa, there's sure to be just as much gaming, eSports, merch, guest speakers, panels and amazing cosplay as you might expect. Critical Hit reports guests will include cast members from Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory. Though exactly who, has not yet been confirmed, information is likely to be announced in coming months.

Partnering with the company one of South Africa's biggest tournament organizers, VS Gaming, there will be a focus on competitive gaming throughout. This isn't the first event of its kind in South Africa, with well-established events like Cape Town's FanCon now in its third year, GeekFest and Icon happening throughout the year. Still, the addition of an event of Comic Con's caliber is a big deal, particularly with the immense worldwide success of Black Panther and the increased conversations about diversity in fantasy and comics, as well as Afrofuturism. Wakanda may only be a fictional African nation, but there's always been plenty of comic fandom across the continent.

Details like ticket prices or an exhibitor's list have not yet been revealed.
