Tracee Ellis Ross Serves Up Crossover Magic with Cameo on 'Grown-ish'

Rainbow Johnson has some serious quesitons for her daughter.

Tracee Ellis Ross will be paying fans a surprise visit on Freeform’s Grown-ish this Wednesday.

As per a quick clip from the episode, Rainbow (Ross) turns up unexpectedly at Zoey’s (Yara Shahidi) dorm room, and mama has some serious questions. It will be Ross’s first appearance on the Black-ish spin-off. Anthony Anderson, who plays Dre, Zoey’s dad, has yet to appear on the series, although he did make a quick cameo via a phone call to his daughter in a previous episode.

From what we can piece together from the clip, after failing to respond to her mother’s texts and phone calls, Zoey goes on a sports talk show with her athlete boyfriend, Cash. So, ever the concerned mother, Rainbow shows up in her daughter’s dorm room looking for answers. “Where the hell have you been young lady?” she demands.

Mama Johnson does not accept Zoey’s “I’m in college, I’ve been busy” excuse, especially given the fact that her daughter has somehow found the time to go on a talk show. “And who does this Cash think he is, making a point on national television to turn my daughter into a basketball wife?” Rainbow demands. Lolz.

From the looks of it, Mrs. Johnson wants to make sure her daughter’s new, relatively high-profile relationship is Kosher, just as any mom would.

You can catch Grown-ish on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform. And who knows? Maybe it won’t be Ross’s last cameo on the show. The series was recently renewed for a second season.
