For as much as everyone would love for Oprah Winfrey to save us all from our unfortunate reality by becoming President, the media icon is completely uninterested in our political daydreams. She recently said she has no interest in running for the country's highest office in 2020.
According to The Huffington Post, a few weeks before that amazing speech she gave at the Golden Globes, Winfrey told InStyle editor-in-chief Laura Brown she doesn't think she has the "DNA for it" when talking politics. "I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not," Winfrey said.
She later told Brown she turned down an offer of financial help for her future political plans, effectively squashing the Presidential run rumors. This isn't the first time she's had to set the record straight, either. She also told Stephen Colbert that she would "never run" for political office during a January 2017 appearance.
Those closest to the 63-year-old mogul are doing little to dispel the rumors, though, with longtime partner Stedman Graham telling the Los Angeles Times Winfrey would "absolutely" consider running. After her speech while accepting the Cecile B. Demille award at the Golden Globes, two of Winfrey's close friends also told CNN she was "thinking about" running.
Oprah's best friend Gayle King, in particular, has been talking to Winfrey about running almost constantly, even though she seems to understand Winfrey doesn't want any part in politics.
"So Gayle sends me these things, and then she’ll go, 'I know, I know, I know! It wouldn’t be good for you—it would be good for everyone else,'" Winfrey said.
For what it's worth, a recent CNN poll determined Winfrey would likely beat Trump in a race for President if a vote was taken today. But at the moment, it doesn't sound like that matters much to Winfrey.
