Macaulay Culkin Prefers First 'Home Alone' Because It Had '100% Less Trump'

Donald Trump's cameo in 'Home Alone 2' isn't a great memory for the movie's child star.

Macaulay Culkin, arguably the most recognizable child actor from the '90s, took to Reddit last night to conduct an AMA. He was there mostly to promote his new podcast, Bunny Ears, and website by the same bizarre name, but mostly answered fans’ lingering questions about his career. One of his most interesting answers, though, was in response to a question about Donald Trump’s now infamous cameo in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York from 1992.

A Reddit user with the incredibly apt username PutinsButtCheeks asked Culkin which Home Alone movie was his favorite. Culkin said the first movie was more fun because they “didn’t know what [they] were walking into and it was a lot less flying all over the place,” since it was only shot in one place, Chicago. But the kicker: it had "100% less Trump."

During one brief scene in Home Alone 2, Culkin is wandering around a swanky hotel and asks a passerby—who happens to be Trump—where the lobby is. The scene is shot in New York’s Plaza Hotel, which Trump purchased in 1988.

In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter last year, Matt Damon revealed that “the deal was that if you wanted to shoot in one of [Donald Trump’s] buildings, you had to write him in a part.” Damon explained, “You have to waste an hour of your day with a bullshit shot” and that “you had to call [Trump] by name” and then you’d get the permit to shoot in one of Trump’s buildings. “I guess in Home Alone 2, they left [the scene] in,” Damon said.

Culkin’s AMA also included a few other gems, like his favorite memory of Michael Jackson (with whom he had a storied friendship), his favorite kind of pizza, and the honest reason why he chose to do the Reddit AMA

And, finally, Caulkin said he is “definitely happy,” no matter how “contrived or easy” it might seem. Caulkin, who has openly admitted to struggling with fame, was dogged by drug abuse rumors for years, and even though he denies it, he has definitely changed in the past year or so, which is why it’s good to know the child star is happy and well.
