Disney Channel has decided to scrub Louis C.K.’s voice from his cameo on their hit cartoon series Gravity Falls. In its four years on the air, the animated show gained a cult following, and its finale in 2016 became the most watched telecast in Disney XD history. Almost two years after the show ended, creator Alex Hirsch replaced Louis C.K.’s voice from the three-part finale he guest starred in.
C.K. voiced a giant disembodied head with an arm growing out of the side called The Horrifying Sweaty One-Armed Monstrosity. The character appeared in “Weirdmageddon: Part 1” in 2015 and “Weirdmageddon: Part 3” in February 2016. C.K. was among Gravity Falls’ many guest stars, including Jon Stewart, Larry King, and others.
Turns out the role of a giant, sweaty monster fit the comedian too well. In November, the New York Times broke the story of five women accusing C.K. of sexual misconduct for masturbating in front of them. Rumors about C.K.’s actions have circulated since 2012, but it wasn’t until last month that the comedian confessed that the allegations were true.
Since then, Netflix, FX Networks, and HBO have all canceled shows or other commitments with C.K. His film I Love You, Daddy was pulled from theaters. Gravity Falls followed the trend and chose to quietly replace the disgraced comedian’s voice on reruns still airing.
“The role was re-recorded approximately one month ago and new versions of three episodes are now on the Disney XD schedule around the world,” a Disney Channels spokesperson told the Daily Dot. Creator Alex Hirsch voices The Horrifying Sweaty One-Armed Monstrosity in the new dub.
