Harvey Weinstein is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police following rape allegations made against the movie mogul, the Los Angeles Times reports. "The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Division has interviewed a potential sexual assault victim involving Harvey Weinstein which allegedly occurred in 2013," LAPD officer Sal Ramirez said in a statement earlier today. "The case is under investigation."
An Italian woman who wished to remain anonymous met with authorities on Thursday to discuss the alleged assault involving Weinstein after a fashion and film event at the Mr. C Beverly Hills Hotel in February 2013. "He grabbed me by the hair and forced me to do something I did not want to do," the woman told The Times.
"Mr. Weinstein obviously can’t speak to anonymous allegations, but he unequivocally denies allegations of non-consensual sex," a rep for Weinstein said in response to news of the LAPD's investigation. Less than a week ago, news surfaced that Weinstein was also being investigated by the New York Police Department after a woman came forward and filed a complaint alleging that she was forced by the disgraced movie mogul to perform oral sex on him inside his Tribeca office in 2004.
"My client is grateful to all the courageous women who have already come forward to finally expose Weinstein," attorney David Ring said. "These women may not have realized it, but they gave my client the support and encouragement to hold Weinstein accountable for this horrible act." If Weinstein is found guilty, he could face nearly a decade behind bars.
