The zeitgeist is currently flooded with food and travel shows where celebrities (or us common folk) travel the globe tasting copious amounts of esoteric food and drink. While we all love to watch these series, as they allow us to indulge by proxy, it does beg the question of why no one has applied the same concept to a different area that we love so deeply: fashion.
Now, Red Bull TV has done just that with its new series Social Fabric, which launched on September 1. Hosted by streetwear designer Kyle Ng, the show sets out to tell the truly surprising stories that are behind our everyday fabrics, and how each is approached differently—in terms of both style and manufacturing—all around the world.
Throughout the show’s 12 episodes, Ng travels everywhere from Kenya and Scotland to Texas and Tokyo, all in the name of discovering the origins behind and narratives surrounding these fabrics we’ve all had in our lives for so long. The sprawling list of styles he explores includes Plaid, Cowboy Boots, the Fedora, the Leather Jacket, Crazy Pants, Jeans, the Suit, the T-Shirt, Bling, Sneakers, Sacred Threads and even Camouflage.
