The crowdfunded Super Troopers sequel is officially done. Star and Broken Lizard member Kevin Heffernan shared the good news with fans Wednesday. In an extensive write-up chronicling the final days of the post-production process, Heffernan revealed that Fox Searchlight has seen the final product and will begin making release plans soon.

Heffernan, mere paragraphs before referring to us all as chickenfuckers, also explained why some had already been treated to screenings of the film prior to post-production being completed. "The reality is that those screenings are done with an unfinished product: temp sound & music stuffed in and a low res picture," Heffernan said. "It's important to do those screenings before everything is locked in, so we can see what works and what doesn't, what jokes play and what jokes suck and then make adjustments accordingly."

The original 2001 film, despite receiving fairly mixed reviews from critics, quickly became a full-blown cult classic following its release. Fox Searchlight's $3.25 million gamble with distribution rights ultimately paid off, as the film grossed more than $23 million at the box office.

Broken Lizard launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund the long-awaited follow-up back in 2015. In just 30 days, tens of thousands of fans helped the film more than double its goal of $2 million. When the Indiegogo campaign ended, Super Troopers 2 had raised a whopping $4.4 million. At the time, that haul gave the sequel the distinction of being the second-largest crowdfunding project ever. Perks for contributors included advance tickets, signed posters, t-shirts, and "a bunch of other cool shit."

Presumably, Fox Searchlight will want to have Super Troopers 2 in theaters next summer. An official date should be announced shortly.
