The trailer for Taraji P. Henson’s new thriller, Proud Mary, just dropped and it looks DOPE. This trailer is the first big clue as to what the thriller will entail. So far, it's set to be heart-racing and explosive, effectively creating the perfect canvas for Henson to kick ass and take names. It almost looks like a mash-up between James Bond and John Wick, which means that if Proud Mary delivers, Henson will have yet another surefire banger on her hands.

In Proud Mary, Henson stars as—surprise—Mary, a paid assassin working in Boston who meets a young boy during a hit gone wrong; during the course of the movie, the boy changes both her personal and professional life.

Henson is joined in this film by How to Get Away with Murder's Billy Brown, Neal McDonough, the legend Danny Glover, Margaret Avery of The Color Purple fame, Xander Berkeley and Jahi Di’Allo Winston a.k.a. young Ralph Tresvant from the The New Edition Story, who plays the boy who changes Mary’s life and sparks her maternal instinct. The film is directed by Babak Najafi (London Has Fallen), with the script being handled by John Stuart Newman and Christian Swegal.

This is Henson’s latest film role after starring as Katherine Johnson in last year’s Oscar-nominated Hidden Figures. She also appeared in the critically acclaimed film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button as Queenie. Proud Mary marks yet another instance of the actress’s continued exploration of the big screen, alongside her memorable (and Golden Globe-winning) performance as Cookie Lyon on FOX’s Empire, which has already been renewed for a fourth season.

Proud Mary is scheduled for a January 2018 release.
