Ahead of his highly anticipated residency at Radio City Music Hall, Dave Chappelle joined Donnell Rawlings on TheBreakfast Club Friday for an insightful and hilarious discussion on Bill Cosby, how Chappelle's Show might fare in today's climate, and much more.

Asked if he felt he still had "something to prove" with his new material, Chappelle said his current approach is more about quality than proving something. "It's not necessarily you feel like you got something to prove," he said. "I'm sure you guys feel the same way. It's like quality control, right? You want to make sure...you put your best foot forward. That doesn't mean you want to prove anything, it just means that you respect the people that respect you, and you want to reciprocate their respect with a good product."

Speaking on how Chappelle's Show might be received if it were on the air today, Chappelle made a point and promptly moved on. "Hey man, the president grabs girls by the pussy," he said.

In light of the recent Cosby developments, Chappelle was also asked about his much-discussed material on the topic ("He rapes, but he saves") that was included in his recent Netflix special. "It's tough to talk about jokes, because I don't want to open the door to all these weird analytics and shit, like 'What does he actually mean by that?'" he said. "That's a slippery slope. But, you know, I think I laid it out pretty clearly, like, the dilemma of watching Bill Cosby going through this. Not to take anything away from the 54 alleged [victims]."

Charlamagne then asked Chappelle if he had an "answer" as to whether Cosby's work should stand on its own. "No," Chappelle said. "It's the kind of question that makes more questions, you know what I mean? It's a tough one, man. What he's accused of is very serious. I don't take that lightly. However, I don't know, it was [the] '70s. Crazy shit was going on. I don't know what to say. America's dad is now America’s rapist. According to the New York Post. It's a tough one." Watch the full interview, including a great bit about dicks and apple pies, above.

On Thursday, Chappelle also stopped by the Tonight Show and Sway in the Morning. Watch those appearances below.
