This latest episode ofKeeping Up With the Kardashians was expected to be a tough one for the family. Previews confirmed this week’s show would address Kim Kardashian-West’s frightening robbery in Paris, where she was reportedly tied up and held at gunpoint.
Hours before the episode aired, Kim went to Twitter to explain why she decided to open up about her painful experience on the popular E! series. She said the incident was “life changing” and she believed it was important to share her story through her own words rather than in an interview. The 36-year-old mother of two also thanked her loved-ones for being there during the difficult time and expressed how grateful she was to be safe at home with her family.
The first 20 minutes of the episode follows Kim and her family attending Paris Fashion Week, just days before the robbery took place. Viewers are then shown footage taken by Kanye West’s documentary team on the night of the armed burglary. The rapper is shown abruptly ending his set at NYC’s Meadows Festival after learning his wife was held at gunpoint.
Still in shock, Kim reunites with the rest of her family in New York City before they make their way back to Los Angeles. Once they're back home, we see the Kardashians discussing where they were and what was going through their minds when they learned about the incident. The stories were emotional, but, of course, the most heartbreaking account came from Kim. While speaking to her sisters Kourtney and Khloe, Kim broke down providing details of the night.
Kim theorizes there were a group of men who were following her family the entire Paris trip. She admits she was Snapchatting that night, letting her followers know that her sister and members of her team, including her then-bodyguard Pascal Duvier, were going out and that she would be alone.
"They had this window of opportunity and just went for it," she said.
Kim then says she was dozing off in her room when she heard pounding on the stairs. Believing it was her sister Kourtney and an employee returning home, she continued to call out "hello" without getting any response.
"Then at that moment, when there wasn't an answer, my heart started to get really tense, like your stomach just kinds of like knots up, and you're like, 'OK, what's going on?'" she explains. "I knew something wasn't quite right."
Kim then tells her sister what exactly occurred after the armed robbers entered.
"I saw two guys holding another guy down in police uniforms, right outside of my bedroom, five feet away. So I slid off my bed and picked up my phone, and I'm like, 'I don’t know how to call 911 in a different country.' So I called Pacsal and then the guy came in, grabbed the phone from me, and threw me on the bed. I was like, ‘This is it.’”
She then said she recognized the concierge who was handcuffed holding the key to her room.
"What I heard from talking to [the concierge] afterward, they said, ‘Where’s the rapper’s wife? Let us up to her room," she said.
The concierge interpreted the burglars' demands. Kim said that while she was being tied up, she asked if she was going to die and if the men were going to kill her. She was begging for life and asked the concierge to tell the intruders that she had babies. Kim then said she believed the men were going to rape her after a man taped her mouth and threw her on the bed. Instead, they taped her legs and held a gun to her head.
"I just knew that was the moment. [...] I just prayed Kourtney was going to have a normal life after she sees my dead body on the bed,” Kim said.
The emotional episode concluded the a video montage of Kim and her family—husband Kanye, daughter North, and son Saint.
