We all get butterflies in our stomachs whenever a reboot of a beloved property is announced. History tells us Murphy's Law will rear its ugly head more times than not. Whether it's a failure to capitalize on the cultural capital of the original (last year's The X-Files) or just woefully misguided from the jump (2013's Ironside), TV reboots are hard to pull off. Hopefully, Twin Peaks' triumphant return will be the exception to the rule. Original co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost are still in control, so we can rest assured the show will not stray from their hauntingly surreal vision. Kyle MacLachlan is back in the saddle as Special Agent Dale Cooper, as are other welcome faces from the original (Everett McGill as Big Ed Hurley and Grace Zabriskie as Sarah Palmer). But it's the newest additions to the cast that have ratcheted up the anticipation, a mixed bag that includes Naomi Watts, Charlene Yi, Trent Reznor, and Michael Cera. Little is known about the plot aside from the cryptic clues circulating online, but the bare bones suggest that events are set in motion after the FBI receives a mysterious box containing puzzle pieces of information relating to the town of Twin Peaks 25 years after MacLachlan's original investigation of Laura Palmer's murder. Cool. Make TV Weird Again. —Erik Abriss
