Hasan Minhaj Explains Why 'All of Us' Should Fear Trump's America on 'Daily Show'

Hasan Minhaj says Democrats now have to "take the L" while explaining why "all of us" have much to fear in the four years ahead.

Trevor Noah and the Daily Show crew spent Wednesday's episode attempting to come to terms with the shocking Electoral College outcome, expressing fear for what it means to live in the President-elect's version of America. Hasan Minhaj reminded viewers of a certain December 2015 promise that the President-elect used as a prominent fixture throughout his campaign: the Muslim ban.

"Like many Americans, I have spent the last 12 hours refreshing the Canadian immigration website, which keeps crashing," Minhaj said on Wednesday's show. "So I'm panicking, because melanin doesn't rub off. Donald Trump won. We gotta take the L." Though Minhaj doesn't understand how or why anyone would have voted for him, he's certain that the next four years will prove especially difficult for all Americans.

"I can't forget something else I heard," Minhaj said. "On Dec. 7, 2015, Donald Trump called for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States. I remember that date because it's the birthday of the worst fucking day of my life. How is that not instantly disqualifying? Even if that's not why most people voted for him, open racism should just be a deal-breaker. You personally may not be a racist, sexist, xenophobe, but that comes with the package. Like if a car comes with heated seats, you may not want them but you'll take them."

When Noah stepped in to remark that Islamophobia isn't necessarily a new concept, Minhaj agreed but argued this election has now normalized it. "Now that asshole in seat 21B calling the flight attendant, trying to get me thrown off the plane, now that guy is the president," Minhaj explained. "Plus, I also think he's groping the lady sitting next to him." But all of us, regardless of religious or other affiliation, have much to fear. "It's not just Muslims or Mexicans or African Americans," Minhaj said. "It is all of us, whether it's your citizenship, marriage rights, or freedom of speech. Donald Trump is going to move on them like a bitch."
