A Reddit AMA with Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi on Saturday revealed a substantial amount about the director's plans for the movie, and dropped a handful of scoops for fans to obsess over before the movie's 2017 release.
Below, the most telling questions and answers about the upcoming Marvel thriller.
On how much the movie is modeled after other Thor flicks:
"I made an effort to ignore the fact there are other Thor films," Waititi wrote. "I honestly know NOTHING outside of what I’m doing. I’m trying to ignore the rest of the universe and just make my own awesome movie," he continued, adding later that he has "no idea" whether or not it will meld with the first two movies.
"It will be a nice addition to the Taika Waititi box-set though."
On the film's vibe:
"Considering the retro logo, can we expect an '80s vibe in Thor: Ragnarok?" one user asked. Waititi's response: "You can. And more."
On what it's like to work with Anthony Hopkins, Jeff Goldblum and Cate Blanchett, and other beautiful people:
"AMAZING. They are gold. Funny. Beautiful people," he wrote, telling us nothing we didn't already know. In what was probably the best moment of the AMA, Waititi mentioned fans might get to see a shirtless Anthony Hopkins.
He also broke away from discussing Thor briefly to drop some career wisdom. In response to a fan who asked for advice about how to break into the industry, Waititi advised readers to "start as a runner. Seriously." He noted elsewhere that Disney has used "Probably 0 percent," of his original Moana script for the finished film.
Thor: Ragnarok has an expected release date of November 2017.
