Why Does Everybody Hate Film Critics So Much Now?

No, let's not shut down Rotten Tomatoes

Sucide Squad

The reviews for Suicide Squad are out. And they are, er, not good. And people are pissed. So angry, it turns out that there is even now a petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes, because it is being unfair DC movies. Which is especially mad, since Suicide Squad isn’t even out yet, so basically all the people complaining won’t have actually seen the film yet, and don’t even know if the critics are right or wrong. But it raises a bigger question: why do people seem to hate film critics so much now?

First things first, let talk about how stupid this Rotten Tomatoes thing is. It’s one thing to hate on critics for their reviews, but not Rotten Tomatoes. Rotten Tomatoes is just a site that pulls together reviews from different site. They don’t actually review the films themselves. You might as well blame a cinema or your DVD player for the quality of movie.

But it goes deeper than this. There’s insane vitriol for movie critics. Just look at these responses to Rolling Stone's review, for instance:

I was so expecting this! These days critics hate everything that DC does! Everything! To much hate in this review. #whopaidyou?
