Clerks creator Kevin Smith had a surprising approach when it came to responding to an internet "troll" who called his 17-year-old daughter Harley Quinn Smith "cancer." Smith called out said "troll," but instead of dragging the bully, he advised him to follow his own dreams instead of bashing others' dreams. Smith has previously tried to inspire dream chasing by posting the shoestring budget he used to make the classic Clerks.

Smith posted a screenshot of the offending troll's Instagram comment on Monday, to which he replied with the advice.

In the troll's comment, he called Harley Quinn "ugly" and her film debut Yoga Hosers a "steaming horse shit" before insulting Smith as well. According to Smith, Harley Quinn found the comments funny, brushing them off by saying, "I'd be mad if I had a tiny dick and anonymous voice too." Smith, however, didn't.

He pointed out how the inciting incident for the comment was just a photo Harley Quinn posted of herself. Last month, Leslie Jones also faced unwarranted cyberbullying on Twitter.

"Here's a nickel's worth of free advice for folks like this Troll: If you hate me (or my kid) this much the better use of your time is to make YOUR dreams come true, instead of slamming others for doing the same," Smith wrote. "The best revenge is living insanely well - so if you wanna get back at a 17 year old girl for the grievous crime of enjoying her life, the best way to do it is to succeed in your OWN existence."

But he didn't let the troll off that easy, adding: "Attacking teen girls on the Internet is the saddest form of masturbation that exists and requires no discernible skill or talent. You want attention? Don't make yourself mad, make something original and fun. Because if you're not being useful in this world you're being useless." He also tweeted:

When folks stoop to conquer me, I simply step on their stooped backs and rise higher. So never stoop, kids. Only stoop-id people stoop.

Earlier this year, Smith got Harley Quinn a cake with "Sorry Men Suck" written on it after two guys posed as Uber drivers and almost kidnapped her. On the bright side, soon Harley Quinn and other Instagram users will soon be able to keep trolls and their unwanted comments away from their Instagram posts.
