A few months after ordering a pilot for Lethal Weapon, the highly anticipated police drama based on the hit film franchise of the same name, Fox has ordered Lethal Weapon to series. Damon Wayans Sr. and Clayne Crawford (Rectify) have been cast for the series' leads—with Wayans stepping into the Roger Murtaugh role previously played by Danny Glover and Crawford portraying Mel Gibson's Martin Riggs.

Fox announced it was picking up Lethal Weapon for its fall schedule, Entertainment Weekly reported, along with the film to TV series remake of The Exorcist. The two series join the already ordered 24 reboot, 24: Legacy, starring Straight Outta Compton's Corey Hawkins.

Here's the official synopsis for the buddy cop series:

"In Lethal Weapon, when Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life."

With a loose cannon partner on the brink and LA crime to be busted, Murtaugh doesn't stand a chance. Lethal Weapon's cast will also include Jordana Brewster, best known for starring as Mia Toretto in the Fast and the Furious franchise, although her role has not been revealed. The show may face competition from the upcoming Training Day TV series based on Antoine Fuqua's film of the same name over on CBS.

A premiere date for Lethal Weapon has yet to be announced.
