Toronto Zoo Asks For Help Choosing Name For Two-Month-Old Rhino

The Toronto Zoo is asking Canadians to help in naming their baby rhino

The Toronto Zoo is once again asking for help in naming a two-month-old Indian rhino born at the zoo earlier this year. The baby rhino, the first one born at the zoo in 16 years, was born on February 17th and now weighs 400 pounds.

Three of the zookeepers looking after the two-month-old calf have come up with three potential names, and are asking Canadians to help pick the final name.

The potential names are: Nandu, Kaziranga and Vihaan.

According to the Toronto Zoo’s website, Nandu means “one who is cheerful and happy,” Kaziranga is an Indian national park where two-thirds of the planet’s one-horned rhinoceroses live and Vihaan means “morning or dawn.”

Earlier this year, the public was asked to weigh in on names for the zoo's two adorable panda cubs. The winning names were Jia Panpan, meaning Canadian Hope, and Jia Yueyue, meaning Canadian Joy.

People can cast their votes on the Toronto Zoo's website until noon on Tuesday May 17th.
