Sad news coming out of California.  Crime writer Michelle McNamara, who founded the website True Crime Diary, has died. The 46-year-old is said to have died in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles on Thursday, but no further details have come out.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, her publicist confirmed the grim news on Friday.  A graduate from the University of Notre Dame with a master's degree in creative writing from the University of Minnesota, she put her talents to good use covering breaking news and cold cases online.

In 2007, the writer admitted to starting her popular blog for fun. "I wanted to get more involved in the cases that were fueling my own curiosity," she said. She dedicated her time to focusing on the lesser known cases like the Golden State Killer, who terrorized California women between 1976 and 1986 by committing 10 murders and 50 sexual assaults.

"It's the ones that really don't get that much attention that interest me because I think what's interesting about them is there's more stuff to be unearthed that hasn't been in the public yet and you can do it," she added.

McNamara is survived by her husband Patton Oswalt, who recently starred in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D, and their 7-year-old daughter.
