Today in acts of dumbness strategically announced via a clearly not edited press release, our already crowded planet is gifted with a guy who claims he changed his name to Bruce Jenner just to make sure everyone knows how transphobic he is. Florida man Mark Behar announced this week that he legally changed his name back in February in an effort to protect the "heterosexual roots" of Bruce Jenner, according to the New York Daily News. As if that actual quote wasn't enough, just peep the following statement from Behar's representative below to see how far this guy is willing to go just to spread some transphobia:
The famous Bruce Jenner name will return to its heterosexual roots where our client believes it belongs instead of hanging out with the likes of the Kardashians and getting into car accidents as Katlyn (sic.)
This guy's Facebook page is predictably full of offensive posts mocking Caitlyn Jenner's inspiring journey, according to the Daily News. Behar, who describes the so-called "new Jenner" as a "110% All American Alpha Male," is perhaps most known (unknown?) for his work as a former bodyguard for the Kardashians, Ben Stiller, Eminem, Donald Trump, and others. Speaking of Trump, Behar is a (you guessed it) passionate Trump supporter.
Is this guy just looking for some ill-advised publicity? You bet. However, regardless of whether this goof actually believes in something called "heterosexual roots" or not, the stunt is indicative of a sadly prevalent attitude among equally stupid harbingers of intolerance. Caitlyn Jenner, though a noted GOP supporter, has made great efforts toward raising awareness for trans issues through her docuseries I Am Cait and beyond. Those efforts, however, are constantly forced to compete for headlines with bigoted shit like this.
