Close-Minded Idiots Have a Problem with the New 'Doctor Who' Companion Being Non-White

There's always a few idiots.

The new companion for Doctor Who was announced on Saturday (bizarrely at half-time during the Manchester United - Everton FA Cup semi final). Joining the long-running BBC sci-fi show from 2017 is relative new-comer Pearl Mackie. She’s best known for starring on-stage in The Curious Dog in the Night-Time at the National Theatre, and has also appeared in the daytime soap opera Doctors.

You may also noticed that she isn’t Caucasian. Obviously, most people wouldn’t bat an eyelid at that, or maybe just think that it’s a good thing that one of the BBC’s flagship dramas is reflecting the make-up of modern Britain. Of course, this being the internet, there’s always some idiots out there somewhere.

Here’s some of the comments on Mail Online.

Comments include “Looks like another PC appointment” and “The PC agenda in action again.” Yeah. Sigh. She isn't even the first non-white companion — Freema Aygeman appearing in the show between 2007 and 2008.

Props to The DM Reporter on Twitter for spotting them.
