Expectations for Suicide Squad have been high ever since it was revealed there was an on-set therapist hired for the DC film. Then presented to us were
Jared Leto's The Joker's method acting, like having henchmen deliver dead pigs, and two increasingly lit trailers. Appearing in some mysterious role in Suicide Squad Common confirms the film is unlike anything audiences have seen. It's "special."
Common recently revealed to Complex his character was named Monster T. Not much had been known about who he was playing except for his physical appearance bearing resemblance to Dennis Rodman. Common told Complex T is "in business with the Joker." Whatever that means.
Part of what makes Suicide Squad special? The cast, like the aforementioned Leto and Margot Robbie. A testament to their acting was Common saying he basically met Leto and Robbie (as themselves) for the first time at the Oscars.
"From the time I stepped on the set, I was my character and he was his character. There was no in between," said Common. "It wasn't like, "Hey, man, how's your family doing?" I saw him at the Oscars, and I saw Margot Robbie, too. It was almost the first time meeting each other. With Margot, it was a little different. But I was standing in my space, being the character, so I love that Jared Leto was doing that."
Suicide Squad premieres August 5.
