If the latest reports are any indication, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has officially made a lot of money. J.J. Abrams' franchise booster is now set to confidently surpass the $2 billion worldwide mark on Saturday, the Wrap reports. This undeniable flex, which also includes the $900 billion mark here in the States, makes The Force Awakens just the third movie in history to grab a couple billion bucks at the global box office.
"This is a historic moment for Star Wars, for Lucasfilm, and for Disney," Alan Horn, Disney chairman, tells the Wrap. "All of us here are extremely gratified to be a part of this journey with fans around the world who have made Star Wars: The Force Awakens such an extraordinary success." As previously reported, that journey is nowhere near finished and will likely continue for however long our planet manages to survive.
The latest calculations place The Force Awakens at $899.1 million domestically and just over a billion elsewhere, with a Disney-pleasing global total of roughly $1.9 billion that could very easily have already become $2 billion by the time you finish this sentence.
The key to making $2 billion at the box office? Silent Bob.
