Sony Are Planning a Live-Action 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Movie

It’s going to be as bad as Super Mario Bros, isn’t it?

Movies based on games suck, right? From Resident Evil to Hitman to Doom, they’re all terrible. The best we’ve ever got is fun, cheesy shit like Mortal Kombat. We have hopes that the Assassin’s Creed film could be ok. Maybe.

At least a lot of those lend themselves to big action movies. Now it appears that Sony want to make a Sonic The Hedgehog film. And not just a kids cartoon, either. Get this:  it’s going to be a “live-action and animation hybrid”. Which menas we’ll probably have a Chipmunks or Smurfs style CGI Sonic running around the real world, with Zach Galifinakis or someone as Dr Robotnik. Sigh.

It was confirmed by Sega president and CEO Hajime Satomi, who said:

"Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid Sonic The Hedgehog movie scheduled for release in 2018. Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved."
