On Thursday officers arrested two men in the Bronx and found more than 136 pounds of cocaine on them. I don't think I weight much more than that.
The whole bust began late that afternoon when cops, Homeland security, and immigration officers pulled over Xavier Herbert-Gumbs, a 24-year-old Puerto Rican man from San Juan. Searching the trunk of his car, they found a box that had 50 one-kilogram bricks of coke. Many of these bricks were labeled with "Messi," a reference to the world famous Argentinian soccer player Lionel Messi.
A little later they found Mark Soto, who was getting out of a car in Kingsbridge. According to Gothamist, a detective says he saw a partially opened box, which ended up holding another 12 kilos.
"The sheer amount of cocaine seized in this case is staggering," Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan said to ABC News. "This is the largest seizure of cocaine being transported in the region that our office has handled in recent years."
It must have been because apparently that amount of coke could be resold for $3 million. The two men face up to four felony drug charges and together can spend up to 100 years in prison. Romantic!
