Quick question: If you watched someone fall onto the subway tracks, would you Superman that person or child out of harm's way? Or would you be like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and peace?

In an unlikely test of his morality, East Harlem resident Herman McGarrah put his life on the line to save a 1-year-old girl after she fell through a crack between the platform and a stationary train while her mother Pamela Ferrell was exiting a car in Times Square, reports Daily Intelligencer. The child reportedly slipped out of her stroller while a stranger was helping Ferrell carry it out (which is scary as hell all on its own).

Daily Intelligencer reports that two bystanders got spooked and fled the scene. That’s when McGarrah intervened. He made the 4-foot drop between the train and the platform to save the baby himself.

In an interview, this civilian-turned-overnight hero told the Daily News that he feels like the act was “redemption” for a life plagued by drug addiction and homelessness.

“When I got down there, it was dirty, I was scared, I was kind of shaking,” he told the Daily News. “Once I got down there, I said ‘Please God, don’t let the train move.’”

He also posted on his Facebook page that he's "finally done something and made my life credible."

Ferrell reports that her baby walked away from the accident unscathed, adding that her little girl is “walking, dancing and playing.” Can we get this man some sort of award or something?
