Pan, the origin story of the beloved children’s tale Peter Pan, never stood a chance at the box office. The $150 million Warner Bros.creation, with a starry cast boasting Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard and Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, failed epicly during its weekend debut, only bringing in $15.5 million. And if early numbers are an indicator, analysts are predicting Pan stands to lose Warner Bros. anywhere from $130 million to $150 million.

Pan is also bombing in international waters, making $20.4 million over the weekend. Its last hope is China (the second largest market internationally), where Pan will premiere Oct. 22. It’s rumored that Pan cost $275 million to make and sell, with $125 million spent on marketing, though that number isn’t exact.

The G-rated flick’s only competition when it came to grabbing kids eyeballs this weekend was Hotel Transylvania 2 in a weekend that saw a Steve Jobs limited release and another week at the top for The Martian.

An executive who wished to remain anonymous, with good reason, said of Pan, "It came in so much lighter than anything we could have predicted. The movie failed to bring in an audience of any size.”
