Woman Found in Trunk of Car She Was Accused of Stealing Gets Charged With Stealing It

Car thief found in trunk of car she stole.

You’re guaranteed to be busted for stealing a car if you, say, steal a cop car, steal a car from a dealership, or decide to hide in the car you stole, as Jamee Lynn Hattok found out firsthand when she was discovered in the trunk of a car she was accused of stealing in Billings, Mont. on Thursday.

The 25-year-old Livingston, Mont. resident was discovered after a Billings police officer found a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, which had been reported stolen earlier that day, at a Motel 6 and contacted the vehicle’s owner to pick it up.

Court documents say the car owner checked the trunk and then “jumped back with her hands in the air” yelling for the officer. That’s when the officer saw Hattok, who climbed out of the trunk and said “everything was OK,” before explaining to police that she chose to sleep in the trunk and not the backseat. At least things didn't go like this:

After a search the police officer found a pipe used for smoking meth, stolen cards, and an ID for another person. Police later found a syringe in her purse, which court documents state tested positive for meth.

Hattok was charged with theft and drug possession and was held for an outstanding warrant. She’s since been released, but is due in District Court on Sept. 29.
