The multichaptered career of Donald Glover adds "Ridley Scott blockbuster" to its table of contents in October with the release of The Martian, which is kind of like the Tom Hanks megaclassic Cast Away but on Mars and with no volleyballs. Glover plays Rich Purnell, a self-described "science geek" tasked with devising a plan to bring home a stranded Tom HanksMatt Damon.

The film, based on Andy Weir's 2011 novel of the same name, began its fast track to the big screen in 2013 when 20th Century Fox wisely optioned the science fiction rescue tale alongside producer Simon Kinberg. Though the film isn't available to the general public until October 2, the Toronto International Film Festival recently housed the Mars adventure's premiere:

As previously reported, Glover will soon merge his mastery of music and film into one proverbial opus in the form of his forthcoming FX series Atlanta. The pilot, directed by Hiro Murai and starring Glover as Earnest "Earns" Marks, centers on an "artistic loner" who begrudgingly returns to his hometown as a supposed failure before discovering the young talent of his cousin Alfred Miles (Brian Tyree Henry).
