This Mobile Porn App Blackmails Users out of $500

Smartphone app takes pic of user, freezes phone and demands US$500

Mobile Porn App Blackmails Users

A mysterious Android app, not available via the Google Play store, is blackmailing mobile porn lurkers. The Adult Player app promises users a treasure chest of free pics and videos, but upon opening the app, porn pirates are shocked to see nothing but a snap of themselves and a demand for cash.

The screen, which features a great shot of Obama pointing a shameful finger right at the user, also includes a fake FBI case number, the phone’s IP address, and a pic of the presumably remorseful Android-using porn lover. The app then locks the phone before demanding US$500 be sent via PayPal. The screen stays there after a phone restart, and can’t be uninstalled.

American security experts Zscaler say Adult Player isn’t the first ‘ransomware’ app masquerading as porn, and likely won’t be the last. The moral? Only download your porn from the most reputable peddlers.
