Facebook Messenger ranked as the second most popular app.

It looks like Facebook Messenger’s ability to do practically anything with your phone hasn’t deterred users from downloading and using the app regularly. ComScore, a Pennsylvania-based tech company specializing in digital media analytics, just released its latest report and the numbers show the invasive app as the second most popular among smartphone users. As it turns out, people aren’t as bothered about their privacy as they may have ranted about in those lengthy Facebook posts.

The Verge reports that Messenger beat out the likes of YouTube and Gmail thanks to the 59.5 percent of smartphone users who use the app at least once a month. And who ranked first? Facebook, of course. More surprising is the fact that Instagram comes in all the way at number nine, and Twitter and Snapchat ranked in the bottom of the pack.  And noticeably absent from the list: WhatsApp.

In a bid to compete with growing apps like Snapchat, Messenger has added more interactive features like video calling, instant video sharing and peer-to-peer payments. In April, the Facebook spinoff added its own version of Siri called M. However, you don’t need to talk to get it to work.  Take that, “I’m sorry, I don’t understand you.”
