A week after Straight Outta Compton defied all expectations to make nearly $60 million in its debut weekend to become the highest grossing, R-rated release in August, ever, the N.W.A. biopic continued to dominate the box office by beating all of this week's new releases.

Compton made another $26.8 million in its second weekend, bringing its total $111.5 million now — more than quadrupling what it reportedly cost to make in just two weeks, according to the studios' Sunday estimates.

With that kind of return on investment, don't be shocked if you see more hip-hop biopics coming down the pipeline (here's five to start with).

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which came out three weeks ago, was No. 2 with $11.7 million.

Otherwise it was kind of a slow weekend for new releases. Sinister 2 was No. 3 with  $10.6 million, Hitman: Agent 47 was No. 4 with $8.2 million, and American Ultra, despite a trailer that honestly made it look like one of the best movies this year, ended up wiith $5.5 million for No. 6.
