Deep breaths, everyone: Channing Tatum will definitely star in 20th Century Fox's upcoming X-Men spinoff, Gambit. Reports earlier this week speculated that he'd dropped the project, but this morning the Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Tatum has closed the deal with Fox.
One of the sticking points was Tatum's role in the X-Men Universe. Fox sees his character, a mutant who uses kinetic energy and playing cards to battle foes, as a key player, which means he might play Gambit for a decade or more a la Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. And, as is to be expected, money was definitely a factor.
Here's hoping that, with Tatum's commitment nailed down, the film will be underway in time for its Oct. 7, 2016 release date.
