Disturbing video out of China captured a woman throwing her son to safety before being eaten alive by an escalator. As the 30-year-old woman, Xiang Liujuan, got off the elevator with her toddler son, a floor panel appeared to collapse. She began to fall into the ground but was able to toss her son to bystanders before completely disappearing from sight. The video isn't technically graphic, but it's disturbing nonetheless. It took responders four hours to retrieve Liujuan's body from the escalator.
According to the L.A. Times, Local publications report escalator pieces were known to be missing prior to her death, sparking outrage from Chinese social media users demanding answers from the shopping center where the tragedy occurred. An investigation is ongoing.
