When you're making a shortlist of legitimate American, nay, Earthling heroes — that list should always include Bill Nye, the undeniably preeminent science guy. Thankfully, much of this increasingly hopeless planet agrees — adding genuine excitement to the announcement of a Kickstarter-funded documentary following Bill Nye on his (surely never-ending) quest to rebuke climate change deniers while also inspiring a youth-oriented interest in future space travel.

Filmmakers David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg are partnering with Oscar-winning producer Seth Gordon for the project, promising a "a hero at the center who needs to vanquish anti-science foes and literally change the world." The collaboration reportedly stems from a chance meeting between Alvarado and Nye during SXSW in Austin, Texas.

From the project's Kickstarter page:

Bill Nye is on a quest to change the world, and we want you to be part of it!

Once the host of a popular kid’s show, Bill is about to take off his “Science Guy” lab coat and battle the naysayers to create a more scientifically literate and engaged universe.

We’re going to make a film about it. A film for science. A film for the cosmos. The full access, exclusive film about Bill Nye.

We’re documentary filmmakers, but we’re also hardcore Bill Nye fans who spent our middle school years learning about the ecosystem and the color spectrum from his trusty VHS tapes. Bill’s passion and enthusiasm stayed with us, and when we got older, we started making films about science and technology. When we learned that Bill Nye was doing something new, working outside of the classroom to champion science and space exploration and the fight against climate change, we knew we had to make this documentary.

If you fund nothing else for the rest of your life, fund this.
