Anti-gay hate crimes in New York continue as the AVP (Anti-Violence Project) reported an anti-gay hate violence attack that occurred in Crown Heights, Brooklyn on July 6, at around 8 in the morning. According to media reports, a 34-year-old, openly gay man was verbally accosted and punched in the face in an unprovoked attack. Luois Lloyd, 29, has been named as the assailant.

This was the third anti-LGBTQ incident in Crown Heights that week.

To help prevent future hate crimes AVP said in a press release:

AVP will be doing outreach in Crown Heights this Friday, July 17th at 5 p.m. to hand out safety information and resources. We will be meeting at the Kingston 3 train stop at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenues, and will be doing outreach as a group. To work on issues of violence in an ongoing way, join AVP’s Hate Violence Community Action Committee, a community and survivor-led working group that addresses hate violence, police violence, hook-up violence, and discrimination against LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities, which meets monthly at AVP. To join us for Friday’s outreach or to get involved with our Hate Violence Community Action Committee contact LaLa Zannell at lzannell@avp.org.
