Yesterday we posted the newest trailer for Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation with "Tom Cruise Damn Near Drowns" in the headline. It turns out that statement is even more accurate than we thought, as Cruise told USA Today about what went into the impressive underwater stunt. The actor who does his own stunts went through vigorous training so he could hold his breath for six and a half minutes underwater. That's longer than we can pay attention to a single YouTube video.

Here's what he had to say:

“It’s something I have always wanted to do. (Director Christopher McQuarrie) and I have been thinking about it since working on Edge of Tomorrow. I have done a lot of underwater sequences. But we wanted to create a suspense underwater sequence without cuts. So doing that sequence was really interesting. We’re underwater and we’re doing breath-holds of 6 to 6 1/2 minutes. So I was doing all my training with the other stuff (on-set). It was very taxing stuff.”

Somehow we're even more impressed by Cruise's dedication to the action craft.
