Brad Pitt Is Going to Be in a Netflix Movie

Brad Pitt set to star in a new Netflix original movie about the Afghan war.

Netflix is working on an original movie about the behind-the-scenes story of the Afghan war, and they've just announced Brad Pitt will play the leading role. Netflix describes War Machine as a "provocative satirical comedy"—so, are we looking at a remake of Inglourious Basterds?

Not quite. War Machine is based on the book The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan about a "rock star" general who wants to win the war with "radical" new methods. The New York Times called it an "impressive feat of journalism by a Washington outsider who seemed to know more about what was going on in Washington than most insiders did."

"Brad and [director David Michôd] are a perfect team to make this timely, compelling and entertaining film," Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said. "I am humbled to be making a big, bold movie about the whole sprawling, complex, cumbersome and crazy machinery of modern war and the many lives it touches."

Sounds like a big undertaking. War Machine will be available everywhere streaming and in select theaters next year.
