'Black Britain on Screen' Season of Films Announced for the Brixton Ritzy Cinema

The season includes critically acclaimed feature films, rarely seen shorts, documentaries and live salon debates.

A season of films documenting Black Britain in cinema has been announced for this summer at London's Brixton Ritzy Picturehouse. Staying Power: Black Britain on Screen kicked off this week with a special screening of Idris Elba’s new film Second Coming, and continues until July 25.

It’s being run by Brixton’s Black Cultural Archive, and spins out of their Staying Power: Photographs of Black British Experience: 1950s – 1990s exhibition in association with the V&A Museum. The season aims to celebrate the black British experience since the 50s, featuring critically acclaimed feature films, rarely seen shorts, documentaries and live salon debates, with strands including Question of Belonging, Black GeniusRevolt & RevolutionSoul Cinema: Mirroring The Black Atlantic and Black In The Digital Age.
