If you feel far too young to possibly be reading news about the third Spider-Man franchise in just 13 years, just know the feeling is mutual. At any rate, the ravenous among us are approaching each trickle of news on the forthcoming reboot with tempered excitement. Though it originally appeared that Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) was locked in as director of the tentatively titled Spider-Man: The New Avenger, that no longer seems to be the case.

According to Deadline, the current shortlist for future Spider-Man directors is as follows: Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite), Jonathan Levine (50/50; Warm Bodies), Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), and John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein (the duo behind the Vacation reboot).

As for the story, the prevailing theory is that this first (and any subsequent) film in the new Spider-Man franchise will follow Peter Parker, post-bite, through his high school years — possibly with each movie covering roughly one year of Parker's life. Though the filmmakers are surely searching for someone much younger, I'd still like to remind everyone of a beautiful moment from 2010 — #donald4spiderman (and/or #donaldforspiderman).
