An NYPD officer was shot multiple times in Queens Village on Saturday and is currently in critical but stable condition in a nearby hospital. Sources say the "plainclothes officer" initially approached the shooter on foot after witnessing him "fiddle with his waistband." As the officer approached, the suspect released "at least three" shots and escaped — presumably on foot.

The suspect was apprehended on Saturday evening at his home near the original shooting location, according to local authorities. Mayor Bill de Blasio is reportedly at Jamaica Hospital, where the injured officer was immediately taken into surgery.

This story is developing.

UPDATE, May 2, 11:25 p.m. ET: The officer, identified as Brian Moore, is in a medically induced coma following surgery. The suspect remains in custody.

UPDATE, May 4, 12:32 p.m. ET: Brian Moore has died from his injuries, according to the New York Daily News. Moore's death means that Demetrius Blackwell, the man identified as the shooter in the incident, will likely now face murder charges.
