Suicide Squad just began filming in Toronto, and already someone has gotten hurt. Scott Eastwood apparently tore Joel Kinnaman's bicep, according to Eastwood's Instagram photo. While Kinnaman's black-and-blue arm doesn't seem severe enough to slow down production of the film, this year has been full of actors getting severely injured and holding back their respective movies.

Johnny Depp hurt his hand in March while filming Pirates of the Caribbean 5, stalling production for a month. The delay was only expected to last two weeks, but the hiatus was extended after doctors had to replace a pin in Depp's hand. Just a few weeks later, in April, Daniel Craig underwent surgery for a knee injury he sustained on the set of Spectre. Reports indicated he missed several days of filming, but a spokeswoman denied Craig's absence. O.G. James Bond and old man Roger Moore offered to fill in if Craig couldn't suck it up.

Christian Bale also suffered a knee injury in April, causing Fox to delay The Deep Blue Goodbye for a year until director James Mangold completes Wolverine 3. He's continued to film The Big Short, but that film isn't physically demanding.

So what's going on here? Are today's actors going soft? Back in the day it took more severe injuries to take an actor out. While filming Rocky IV Dolph Lundgren hit Sylvester Stallone so hard in the chest his pericardial sac became swollen and impeded his heartbeat. And Jackie Chan broke his skull from falling 25 feet onto a rock on the set of Armour of God

Those old school injuries actually sound pretty goddamn awful. Maybe actors today are just being wisely cautious, lest they end up with a permanent plug in their skull like Chan. Or it's yet another sign of the wussification of the human race.
