A seven-year-old girl in Louisville, Kentucky was dragged by a school bus when her backpack was caught in the bus' doors, according to ABC News

The incident was caught on tape by a neighbor's surveillance camera, according to ABC affiliate WHAS-TV. The tape also shows footage of witnesses running down the street, trying to get the bus to stop.

Witness Esther Karschner said she saw the young girl with her legs hanging out of the bus as it drove down the street. She also said that another car tried to stop the bus, speeding alongside it and honking to get the driver's attention.

"I saw a car go flying by behind the bus real fast," she said. "Shortly after, the car stopped the bus. Her bookbag was caught on the bottom of the door when she got out."

A spokesperson from the Louisville Metro Police Department, Dwight Mitchell, told ABC News that "apparently her backpack got stuck in the door," and the bus driver "didn't know that." The police estimate that the young girl was dragged about 100 feet.

However, Karschner said it was somewhere between 600 and 1000 feet.

The seven-year-old was hospitalized, but her injuries are "non-life-threatening," said Mitchell. She was treated for road rash on her legs.

A police investigation is still ongoing, according to Mitchell. School officials of the Jefferson County Public School District are also investigating.
