A glimpse at terrorist human resources

US officials have released hundreds of files found in the Pakistani hideout where Osama Bin Laden was found and killed. A lot of it , as you might expect, details his hatred of America and the West.  But there was one particular interesting thing in there: application forms for joining al-Qaeda.

You might have thought a deadly terrorist organisation with a penchant for suicide attacks would have not been to picky about its members. But apparently they had a pretty in-depth recruitment process.  Translated by the CIA, the questions start off pretty standard, asking about your family background, your interests, skills, and then what passports you currently hold. It then goes on to cover how often involved with Islam you are.

But the disturbing part comes right at the end, when it asks “Do you wish to execute a suicide operation?” and how far you would go for the Jihadi cause. And it ends on asking who to contact if you did martyr yourself.

It’s pretty morbid. Also, where would you even send the completed application form to?
