Will this be the price breakthrough that make 3D printing take over the world?

3D printing is going to change the world. We all know it’s going to happen eventually. But it’s not going to happen until we can all afford one. Tech has to drop to a certain price point before we can all get on board, and not just be bought by the people who also own Zunes and HD-DVD players and laserdiscs.

The Kickstarter for the ‘Tiko’ might be that breakthrough. For a pledge of just $179 (£122), you can get a fully working, portable, wireless 3D printer—which considering most 3D printers on Amazon start at around £500, is an incredible breakthrough. It is constructed with a single ‘unibody’ frame, which is what the developers say makes it so easy and cheap to produce. The Wi-Fi capabilities also mean you can print off a smartphone almost anywhere.

The Kickstarter has already made $1.5 million—15 times its original goal.
